I What does the word free mean to you? Many people characterize this word as receiving something for nothing and have the belief that if it’s free it must not be worth much. Well I beg to differ.
Throughout my life I have read the Bible over and over and I realize that it’s no ordinary book, but a beautiful set of instructions that God has given to inform, instruct and enhance our lives. It’s a phenomenal point of reference better than any dictionary or the best set of reference books. The Bible mentions the word “FREE” at least 50 times and this simple word, when taken in context lets us know that we do not have to be restricted, restrained, or confined.
One of my favorite scriptures from the Bible is, “Therefore if the Son makes you FREE, you shall be FREE indeed” and that kind of free didn’t come cheap. (John 8:36) This verse lets us know that we do not have to be slaves to sin and we no longer have to be bound by the whispers of our past. Whether a Believer or a Non-Believer we should all apply this philosophy to our lives. It doesn’t matter how ugly the past might have been, the beautiful thing about the past is that it’s over and it should no longer have an affect on your present life nor dictate your glorious future. You have the right of choice, to change your mind and start changing your life for the better. So what if you were a prostitute, a drug addict, an adulterer, a liar, a cheat or a thief, the good news is that Jesus sacrificed his life to free you of the repercussions of those sins and many more. We no longer have to accept the ugliness of the past or the ugly labels that come along with it. We no longer have to be subject to shame, guilt and bondage. Without a doubt, it is time to truly live free! So, I’m reaching out to all the women who are not honestly walking in this freedom, those who may not know Jesus. Do you know of any? Is it you? If so, then you should all know that He will cover all of you as well. Living free means accepting and believing the fact that you are definitely, fearfully and wonderfully made and in that, there are no shades of gray, there is no room for doubt and there are no open areas for maybes.
So if the word of God tells us that we can be free, indicating that we have a choice; then why not use that power and make a conscious effort and make the right choice . . . choose to be free, to live free and stay. Now, stop for a moment. Take a deep breath and tell all of the negative, divisive forces around you to back off! Okay, you have a past . . . So What, Who Doesn’t? Maybe you’ve messed up some stuff . . . So What! Maybe, just maybe up until this point you have been living below your God-given true potential . . . So What! Today is your day, it’s my day, and it’s the day to choose to be different, to be better, and to be free.
It is not just about living your life, but about living your life more abundantly, after all Jesus came that “we”, that includes both you and me, would have life and have it more abundantly. Your freedom has already been divinely ordained and paid for so why not access it? My faith and my beliefs are what allow me to live in this truth, the truth that Jesus paid it all! But this isn’t just about me it’s also about you. So I challenge you. I challenge you to live in that same liberating freedom.
